Accessible EV Charging for All: Introducing Kerbo Glide
Woking resident and Kerbo Charge mobility customer
More than 40% of UK households don’t have a driveway, and for many disabled drivers, charging at home has felt out of reach. Tasks as simple as bending to insert a charging cable can be a barrier to EV ownership.
At Kerbo Charge, we’re working to change that.
Our cross-pavement charging channel already enables residents without driveways to charge safely at home. Now, with the launch of Kerbo Glide, charging is becoming more accessible than ever.
What is Kerbo Glide?
Kerbo Glide is a new mobility-friendly cable insertion tool that makes kerbside EV charging safer and easier.
Shaped like a small plough, it clips directly onto your EV charging cable. Instead of bending or kneeling to insert the cable into the Kerbo Charge channel, you simply guide Kerbo Glide at the entrance and pull it through.
Kerbo Glide was developed with advice from Motability Operations Ltd and tested by Motability customers. This wasn’t about making charging more convenient; it was about removing real barriers faced by people with restricted mobility.
✅ One-handed use: Ideal for drivers with limited strength or dexterity
✅ No bending or kneeling: Reducing strain and discomfort
✅ Inclusive by design: Created alongside disabled drivers to meet genuine accessibility needs
“Kerbo Glide makes charging more inclusive by removing a simple but significant barrier for people with restricted mobility. We’re proud to have designed and tested this tool alongside Motability customers to make sure it truly works for them.”
– Michael Goulden, Co-Founder & CEO of Kerbo Charge
Why accessibility in EV charging matters
Fairer EV adoption: Disabled drivers often face higher costs and fewer options when it comes to charging. Kerbo Glide helps level the playing field.
Safe kerbside charging: By making cable placement easier, Kerbo Glide keeps pavements safer and reduces trip hazards.
Supporting sustainable mobility: Accessibility is key to making EV ownership practical and affordable for all residents.
With over 14 million people in the UK living with a disability, accessibility isn’t a niche issue; it is central to making the switch to electric vehicles fair for everyone.
