sale
  • You pay £50 for a professional electrician’s survey. This is fully refunded if you don’t go ahead with your order.

  • The total installation price including the survey is £585 for a standard installation.

  • Note: if you don’t have a driveway, you will also need to buy a Kerbo Charge cross-pavement channel to be able to safely charge your car.

  • Compliant with BS 7671 - protected from overheating from continuous use - the electrician installs a dedicated circuit to your fuse board or meter.

  • Free from planning permission - this is a general-purpose socket.

  • Electrically safe to charge across the pavement - we install a PEN fault protection and surge protection device next to your fuse board or meter.

  • Compatible with Intelligent Octopus Go, Ovo Anytime and other smart tariffs.

  • IP66 weather and dustproof rating, the socket conforms to BS 1363-2 (the standard for 13A sockets).

  • Important note: you’ll need a 3-pin to Type 2 charging cable (a ‘granny’ charger) to connect your car to this socket. These are provided with many EVs as standard but if not you’ll need to purchase one separately, such as this one.

FAQs

How does ordering work?

  • Your order is passed to a Kerbo Charge quality assured electrician in your area.

  • They are immediately emailed and you are copied in.

  • You will be contacted in 1 - 3 days to organise a virtual survey of your property.

  • Your installation date will be scheduled after that.

What warranty do I have?

  • You’ll receive a 12 month labour and parts warranty from the electrician.

What is ‘PEN’ fault protection?

  • When you plug an EV charging cable into your home supply and run it across the public pavement you need a ‘Protective Earth Neutral’ (PEN) fault protection device.

  • PEN fault protection devices are required because there is a risk that the voltage on the charger cable earth wire from a home without a local earth spike could be dangerously different from the local earth voltage as experienced through metal railings, lamp posts or electrical devices connected to other power supplies.

  • Because of this "simultaneous contact” risk, the terms and conditions of fitting and using a cross-pavement EV cable channel, like our own, require all cables to come from a power supply with a PEN fault protection device.

  • It’s also necessary for the Kerbo Charge channel to be a minimum of 2.5m from electrical street furniture with a metal casing (e.g. a lamppost), as further detailed in this OZEV guidance.

Exactly what product is installed?

  • We typically install a Hager Sollysta IP66 Single 13A Double Pole Switched Socket, suitable for EV charging.

  • The dimensions are 90mm wide x 100mm high x 117mm deep

  • We also install a PEN fault protection consumer unit with surge protection next to your fuse board or meter.

Is this compatible with smart EV charging tariffs?

  • In many cases yes, via your energy supplier’s app, if you car is compatible. Check the list of Octopus compatible cars here and the list of Ovo Anytime compatible cars here.

Is this an EV charger?

  • This is not an EV charger. This is the installation of a general purpose external socket that can be used to safely charge your car.
