Charge your electric car at home in Cambridgeshire, even without a driveway
Cambridgeshire is steadily evolving to meet the growing needs of electric vehicle owners, with public charging infrastructure expanding and an increasing focus on home EV charging solutions.
For residents in villages and suburban areas such as Histon, Great Shelford, Hardwick and the outskirts of St Ives and Huntingdon, where homes often have driveways or garages, installing a home charging point is a convenient and cost-effective option. In more densely populated areas, such as Romsey, Petersfield and Chesterton in Cambridge, central Ely, and parts of Wisbech and March, many homes have no off-street parking and terraced houses or flats are common, so residents often rely on on-street parking.
Our cross-pavement channel allows residents to install a cable channel into the pavement outside their home and charge safely on the street without creating a trip hazard, while benefiting significantly from lower home energy tariffs compared with public charging.
Cambridgeshire County Council is running an EV cable channel trial to help residents with on-street parking move from petrol and diesel cars to electric. The trial allows up to 250 channels across two phases, with places shared between each of the county's districts, and is delivered through Kerbo Charge.
As Cambridgeshire continues its transition to greener transport, the growth of both home EV charging and public charging infrastructure will be key to supporting the increasing number of electric vehicles on the road. Cross-pavement charging will help improve air quality and reduce CO2 emissions, supporting the County Council's ambition to reach net zero.
